Funds were used to support the Robert C. Byrd Center for Rural Health in order to expand its capacity to evaluate, assist, and guide West Virginia’s school-based health centers.  In particular, the grant enabled the Technical Assistance Unit to provide effective service to those school-based health centers that initiated mental health services.

WV Primary Care Association, Inc.

Funds were used to support the WV School-Based Health Center technical assistance project to provide the information needed to improve financial viability of the centers operating in West Virginia.

Rainelle Medical Center, Inc.

Funds were used to hire a second mental health counselor to develop and implement a substance abuse/chemical addiction program in the school-based health centers sponsored by Rainelle Medical Center.

WV Primary Care Association, Inc.

Funds were used to strengthen the WV School-Based Assembly infrastructure by subsidizing the Co-Executive Director position for the School-Based Health Assembly.

E.A. Hawes Health Center

Funds were used to subsidize mental health services in the East Hardy school complex.

Pendleton Community Care

Pendleton Community Care utilized these funds to hire a mental health educator for the school-based mental health programs in North Fork Elementary and Pendleton High Schools to develop and implement programming that intervened at developmental risk points to prevent the complications that could develop into acute and chronic mental health problems.

Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston

Funds were used to allow the Office of Education of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston to conduct a feasibility study to determine whether school-based health services were needed and feasible in two elementary Catholic schools in Wheeling and Weirton.

Parkersburg Area Community Foundation

Funds were added to the Sisters of St. Joseph Health and Wellness Foundation School-Based Health Fund.  The income from this fund will serve as a resource to help meet the cost of special projects, public education, fund raising, and emergency needs of school-based health centers in West Virginia.

Rainelle Medical Center

Funds were used to support and strengthen the mental health capacity at the school-based health centers sponsored by Rainelle Medical Center. The grant supplemented the salary of the mental health counselor, paid for training costs, and purchased additional equipment and supplies.

Pendleton Community Care
$50,000.00
Funds were used toward salary/benefits of the mental health counselor, travel, equipment, and other associated costs for the school-based mental health program sponsored by Pendleton Community Care.

New River Health Association

Funds were used to support the school-based mental health wellness and education program at the school-based health centers (wellness centers) operated by the New River Health Association in the elementary, middle, and high schools of Mt. Hope, WV.  Funds were used for associated costs such as personnel, travel, equipment, and training.
